Author Guidelines for The Roads in Journals

The author should submit the manuscript as explained below:

Please keep the text, tables, and graphics as separate files; in other words, do not import the figures or tables into the text file. Text files should be supplied in one of the following formats: Microsoft Word or WordPerfect, in either Windows or Macintosh format. All manuscript files should be submitted through the journal system. Most formatting codes will be removed or replaced when accepted articles are processed, so you do not need to apply excessive layout styling. In addition, do not use options such as automatic word breaking, justified layout, double columns, or paragraph numbering. However, you may use bold face, italic, subscripts, superscripts, etc., for scientific nomenclature. When preparing tables, if you use a table grid, please use only one grid for each separate table and not a grid for each row.

Graphic files:

The journals accept only JPG, TIFF, and EPS formats for graphics. Each figure should be in a separate file and not be embedded in the text. All graphic files must be submitted in sufficiently high resolution, for grey-scale and colour images (250 dpi for grey-scale and colour images, and 500–800 dpi for line art) to allow for high-quality printing. Articles must be submitted via the Web using the provided link: https:// Complete instructions for uploading data and files are given on the website when submitting a manuscript. As instructed above, the authors are responsible for creating the files for the electronically submitted manuscript. The editorial office cannot make conversions beyond the supported file types. After online submission, there is no need to send a hard copy of the manuscript or illustrations to the Editors. Please note that the electronic files supplied will always be used to produce the article; it is the Authors’ responsibility to ensure that these files are of suitable quality.

Organization of the article

Manuscripts should be prepared electronically using an appropriate MS Word-compatible word-processing package, formatted for A4 or letter page size, double-spaced throughout with 2.5 cm margins on all sides, and in 12-point font. The text should not be justified but should be aligned with flush left. Words should not be hyphenated to fit on a line. Pages should be numbered sequentially.

Title page: The title page should contain the following items:

(1) The complete title. (2) Full names of all authors. (3) Complete affiliations of all authors. (4) The name and complete address of the corresponding author, including an e-mail address, to whom correspondence and proofs should be sent.

Abstract:

This should concisely describe the study’s purpose or a summary of the review and should not exceed 300 words.

Keywords:

Provide 4–6 relevant keywords, avoiding general and plural terms and multiple concepts. These keywords will be used for indexing purposes.

Acknowledgments:

Collate acknowledgements in a separate section at the end of the article, placed before the references. Please do not include them on the title page, as a footnote to the title, or elsewhere.

Research Reports should be divided into numbered sections headed by an appropriate caption.

Abstract Introduction Materials and methods Results Discussion Acknowledgements References

Introduction:

The research objectives should be clearly stated in this section. Relevant background information and recently published studies should be described concisely and cited appropriately.

Material and methods:

This section should contain all the details necessary to reproduce the experiments. Avoid re-describing methods already published; only relevant modifications should be included in the text.

Experimental subjects:

When human subjects are used, a statement that the experiments were undertaken with each subject's understanding and written consent must accompany manuscripts. Authors should be aware of the Code of Ethics of the World Medical Association (Declaration of Helsinki), which has been printed in the British Medical Journal (18 July 1964). When experimental animals are used, the methods section must indicate that adequate measures were taken to minimize pain or discomfort. Experiments should be carried out per the European Communities Council Directive of 24 November 1986 (86/609/EEC), or with equivalent national guidelines governing the use of animals for experimental procedures.

Results:

This section should present the results clearly and concisely, with appropriate interpretation. Results should usually be presented descriptively and supported by figures.

Discussion:

This section should not rely on extensive citations or lengthy discussion of previously published literature.

References:

In the main text, references should be cited by authors’ surnames and year of publication. All references cited in the text should be included. One or two authors should be cited by surname; for three or more, the first author is cited followed by et al.: … (Kaplan, 2003) …; … (Malik & Batcharov, 2001) …; … (Smith et al., 2003) …; … (Malik & Batcharov, 2001; Smith et al., 2003; Beyaz, 2009; Kaplan, 2010) ….

References not cited by surname should be included at the end of a phrase or sentence in parentheses, in chronological order, separated by semicolons, except when citing two or more papers by the same author(s), which commas should separate.

References to more than one paper in the same year should be designated by letters: ... (Malik & Batcharov, 2001; Smith et al., 2003; Kaplan et al., 2005a, 2005b). All references cited in the text should be listed at the end of the manuscript on a separate page, arranged in alphabetical order of first author, then year of publication.

The accuracy of references is the responsibility of the author. The references should include only articles that are published or in press. Unpublished data, submitted manuscripts, or personal communications should only be cited within the text. A letter of permission should be documented for personal communication(s). All items in the list of references should be mentioned in the text; conversely, all references cited must be presented in the reference list. The abbreviations of journal titles should conform to those adopted by the List of Serial Title Word Abbreviations, CIEPS/ISDS, Paris, 1985 (ISBN 2-904938-02-8).

Illustrations and tables

Illustrations:

Using colour in illustrations can enhance the effective presentation of the results. In the journal, illustrations will appear across a single column (8.3 cm) or a whole page (17.6 cm). The illustrations should be numbered in Arabic numerals according to the sequence of appearance in the text, referred to as Fig. 1, Fig. 2, etc. If illustrations (or other small parts) of articles or books already published elsewhere are used in papers submitted to The Roads in Journals, written permission of the authors and publisher concerned must be included with the manuscript (such files must be submitted as appendix file (s) during submission). The source must be stated in the illustration's legend in these cases.

Colour reproduction:

On the Web:

If you submit usable colour figures with your accepted article, these figures will appear in the article as colour.

Tables:

Tables should be constructed together with their captions and legends. They should be prepared with minimal reference to the text. Tables of numerical data should each be typed single-spaced on a separate page and numbered in sequence in Arabic numerals (Table 1, Table 2, etc.). The text refers to them as Table 1, Table 2, etc. The title of each table should appear above it. A detailed description of its contents and footnotes should be given below the body of the table.

Proofs, miscellaneous

Proofs

Proofs will be sent by email or as a PDF. Only printer errors may be corrected; no changes or additions to the edited manuscript will be allowed at this stage. It should be kept in mind that proofreading is solely the Authors’ responsibility. A form with queries from the copyeditor may accompany the proofs. Please answer all questions and make any corrections or additions required. Corrections to the proofs must be returned by e-mail within 48 hours after receipt. If the Publisher receives no response from the Authors after 3 days, it will be assumed that there are no errors to correct, and the article will be published.

Article processing charges

The Article Processing Charge is 1,550 USD for Review Articles and 1,950 USD for Research Articles.

Authorship

To be identified as an author, the participant should have contributed to the conception and design of the project, drafted substantive portions of the paper or revised it critically, and taken responsibility for the analysis and conclusions of the paper. Other participants with less responsibility, such as those who merely assisted in the research, should be identified and acknowledged for their contributions.

Disclosure statement

All authors must disclose any affiliations that they consider relevant and necessary with any organization that to any author’s knowledge has a direct interest, particularly a financial interest, in the subject matter or materials discussed. Such affiliations include, but are not limited to, employment by an industrial concern, ownership of stock, membership on a standing advisory council or committee, a seat on the board of directors, or being publicly associated with a company or its products. Other areas of real or perceived conflict of interest include receiving honoraria, consulting fees, grants, or funds from corporations or individuals representing such corporations.

This requirement will apply to every article submitted to the Journal, including original research, reviews, editorials, letters to the editor, and others. It should be disclosed at the time of submission. Authors are required to indicate whether there is any financial or other conflict of interest. If none, the authors should positively state, "The authors declare that they have no competing financial interests."
